Cross Hayes Gate

This fascinating project on a grade 2 star property's front gate was an exercise in where to intervene on old repairs and presented some unusual challenges.  Made of cast iron both leaves had been snapped close to the backstile at some point in the past and then repaired.  Following this they broke a further four times around this original repair with a distinct strata in fixing techniques over the years, to which we added our own where there ware a new cracks.  All of the historical record obviously had to be retained while maintaining the structural integrity and addressing corrosion issues.

Both piers had shifted in a variety of planes and interestingly were now too close together for the gates to close. The cast construction of both piers and gates precluded any adjustment to them, so the piers had to come out and be re-positioned to fulfil the client's original brief which was to adjust the gates so they closed.
